539950_482751735152260_1310127883_n Toronto beatsmith Deebs creates music that will inspire a journey regardless of whether the listener is partaking in physical movement or not. He lends himself to varying soundscapes that pull on heartstrings one moment and create euphoria in another. Awry, Deebs new album, is a culmination of these contrasting elements.

“Arcadia 333″ leads off the series with a nostalgic tape deck sound; sporadic radio noise laced throughout to boot. “Elevate” takes the tempo and mood up a notch while mid track changing its identity entirely to something that would sound fitting in a Mission Impossible feature film, before returning in the closing half to an uptempo shuffle. “Lady Killer” features the outstanding vocals of Mars and is brooding with lush chords echoing intermittently. “At Sea, Sea Siq” takes things to dizzying heights with a crescendo of heavy synth stabs and sampled background noise.  ”Years” drops the listener back into another spectrum entirely; it’s murky and incredibly deep. “BBFF” features the kind of clanging and varied percussion that could set a club off late into the night; when the melody hits you just before the two minute mark, there’s no doubt its a classic. Alas, Awry comes to a climax with “Finally home”. The finale is a track that warps in and out of focus with similarities to the melody of the intro, “Arcadia 333″; like the memories of great night where things may have gotten a bit out of hand at one point, but you still got home in one piece.
